What is the schedule for testing and training?
Testing schedules for HR and Finance are being approved. You can see the testing schedule for student administration is listed under the Student Administration header. Peoplesoft training dates will be finalized in the upcoming weeks.
2
How will security work?
How will staff get log-in access and who will set-up custom access
Higher Education Computer Network (HECN) ConnectND Security staff implement and maintain security policies with respect to ConnectND, ancillary systems and related systems.

To provide the access that students require, and to manage the HECN ConnectND Security staff workload, HECN will ask campuses to create student user identifications (called "userids" in PeopleSoft) and set or reset student passwords in the Student Administration enviroment.

Faculty and staff ConnectND access control will be provided by HECN ConnectND Security staff. However, campus access control officers will need to recommend appropriate roles so faculty and staff have access to information they need to do their work.

It is recommended that each campus have at least one primary and one alternate ConnectND Campus Access Control Officer for each System (Finance, HRMS, Student Administration). The primary Access Control Officer(s) will be the main point of contact for questions concerning accesses at the institution, important notifications of upcoming changes and requirements for the System(s), and for problem resolution. The alternate Access Control Officer(s) have the same responsibilities for accesses, but are not the main contact person(s).

An Access Control Officer appointed for the Student Administration System is responsible for administering the access control for students. Those duties would include adding student profiles as needed, such as a late admittance, resetting passwords for students, assisting the students with profile information on the portal, and facilitating access requests and deletions will require close interaction with the department heads and the appropriate ConnectND team.

An Access Control Officer appointed for the HRMS and/or Finance System is responsible for facilitating (not administering) access requests and deletions for faculty, staff, and other employees.

Once we are live with Peoplesoft, who will I contact if I have a question?
The PeopleSoft CRM (Customer Relationship Management) module does contain functionality that could be used by help desks, but it is not a module that will be put into service in the initial four phases of implementation.

ITD uses Frontrange's HEAT help desk software, which has also been purchased and deployed by seven other State agencies to date. ITD will look at the PeopleSoft CRM module and evaluate the benefits of transitioning to it, but ITD is not looking to replace HEAT. The University System has not committed to using the PeopleSoft CRM module to replace functionality currently provided by Remedy, but is investigating the possibility.

As we move through the four implementation phases and plan for a new production PeopleSoft environment, one of the discussions that will need to occur will be "How will we (the State and NDUS) support the new system long-term?"; There are a variety of options for providing that support. Standardizing help desk software using PeopleSoft's CRM module could be one of those options.

How will PS work with Macs?
Will need Mac OS 7.6.1 or above.
2
How will printing work?
Will Page Center still exist?
Will the departments need to obtain new printers?
It is anticipated that PeopleSoft reports will take the place of PageCenter reports. The ConnectND project teams are currently configuring the PeopleSoft product, thus the data they choose to capture will be available to you through PeopleSoft. In all likelihood, there will be even more data available to you than there is now. In addition, PeopleSoft has desktop reporting capabilities, which allow the user to query the data. Administrative offices that currently use PageCenter will begin using PeopleSoft as it is implemented on each campus. It is anticipated that all campuses will be fully operational under PeopleSoft by July 1, 2004. PeopleSoft training will occur under a just-in-time basis.
3
What is minimum desk top computer needed to run PS?

Based on experience at the pilot sites, the following minimums are recommended for frequent or "power" users of ConnectND PeopleSoft systems:

  • Browser : Internet Explorer 6 is recommended for use with Windows 2000 and XP. Internet Explorer 5 or 5.5 may work on Windows 98, but some problems might be encountered. Internet Explorer 5 is recommended on Mac OS 7.6.1 or above.
  • Memory -- 256 MB RAM
  • CPU -- 800 MHz
  • Display -- VGA with 800X600 resolution or higher and 16-bit colors

Casual users can access ConnectND systems with other browsers and less than those minimums but will see slower results.

MS Office (Word and Excel) will be used for various administrative functions. Recommendations concerning those software programs will be provided later.

4

How will we access the reports?

4 What terminology should be used to describe the new portal? Is"Campus Connection" the name that the portal is going forward with? The Higher Education Project Leads agreed that the portal should be called: Campus Connection.
5 Will those accessing the ALFI web address get a redirect to the PS portal and just publishing the ALFI web address would be a safe route to take? We already redirect the pilot campus students from the ALFI web to Campus Connection, and we will do that for NDSU students when
appropriate.
